Andrew McCandless Park Wetland Design

PROJECT: Andrew McCandless Park Wetland Design

CLIENT: Landscape Planning Limited

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:

  • Water’s Edge was authorized by Landscape Planning Limited (LPL) to complete a wetland design to compensate for the removal of natural wetlands in the area due to development. The designed wetland will capture and control drainage from the McCandless Park site located at the southeast corner of Mississauga Road and Bovaird Drive in Brampton, Ontario.
  • Water’s Edge staff assessed existing conditions within the park and determined appropriate LID strategies. We provided the consultant team with water resources engineering, hydrology, and hydraulic expertise to aid in the design of the proposed wetlands and naturalized swales/bioswales for the Park and Valleyland Naturalization areas.
  • During Contract Administration and Construction, we provided input to the tender, construction, and post-construction monitoring activities to ensure that the works were completed to the satisfaction of the client.
  • It was recommended that a monitoring plan be implemented for at least one year following the construction of the wetland and site to observe water levels, animal usage, and erosion or sedimentation resulting from the contributing swales.
  • Upon completion of the monitoring program in early 2018, Water’s Edge reviewed the design and the outlet structure, planting strategy, and habitat structures were adjusted as required.
