Upper Kidd’s Creek Hydro-Geomorphic Assessment and Designs

PROJECT:  Upper Kidd’s Creek Hydro-Geomorphic Assessment and Designs

CLIENT:  Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority / City of Barrie

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:

  • A total of five reaches were delineated for the study area to enable a systematic evaluation of channel form and process.
  • A topographic survey was completed of the study reaches and blended with the City of Barrie DEM to create a project base plan.
  • Meander belt widths were delineated for each reach using the contemporary planform with an added factor of safety.
  • Field reconnaissance was undertaken with both rapid and detailed geomorphic assessments completed throughout.
  • Design concepts and drawings addressed environmental requirements to provide stability or dynamic stability and enhance the downstream translation of cold water to lower fish populations that include Brook Trout, within given physical constraints.
  • Each design alternative was evaluated based on a set of natural environments, economic, and social/cultural criteria as per the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment requirements.
  • Detailed designs for the two upstream reaches were prepared, tendered and constructed as Phases 1 and 2. Construction was completed in Fall 2019.
